Frequently Asked Questions about Curriculum Mapping

1)  How much time will be involved for teachers?
-The learning teams established within the schools will meet approximately one hour per month.
-Teachers will utilize approximately two hours at the beginning of the process to gather information and make curriculum maps.

2)  Who in the school is involved?
-This is a decision each school must make. The goal is that every teacher maps his/her curriculum. Some schools may want to start with one or two subjects or some other combination.

3)  What is the school's commitment?    
-Lead teacher to be the site facilitator
-Time/travel for site facilitator and principal to attend the fall 2000, "kick-off" and Spring 2001 follow-up days
-Time/travel for site facilitator and principal to attend regional training sessions and video conferences

4)  What are the recommended criteria for the school site facilitator?  
-A member of the school system for three or more years
-Highly respected by fellow staff members
-An exemplary teacher in her/his selected area of instruction or
-An exemplary administrator, coordinator, counselor
-Skillful in or willing to learn techniques for facilitation of adult learning
-Has a belief system in the importance of team/collaborative/cooperative strategies
-Interested in personal career development
-Active in the positive development of the school and fellow staff
-Operates from and believes in the truth that all children can learn
-Believes in high expectations for every child and teacher
5)  What are the benefits for the school site facilitator?

6)  What are the responsibilities for the school facilitator?   
-Attend facilitator training, conferences and follow-up facilitator/principal meetings
-Distribute materials to staff
-Establish learning teams and meeting times
-Assist in the development of site plans for standards-based instruction
-Help participants integrate new ideas with current practices
-Encourage meaningful dialogue among participants to foster change
-Provide opportunities for reflection and evaluation
